KOHA By-Laws

The Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was founded in 1965.

To provide every boy and girl in southwest Michigan the opportunity to enjoy and excel at the game of hockey.

KOHA will be a regional hockey destination and a national leader for youth hockey.

Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association believes:

  • playing hockey should be a positive experience for all participants; therefore, we will promote a safe, respectful and sportsmanlike environment.
  • participants will develop dignity and self-esteem; therefore, we will promote a positive culture from parents, coaches and staff.
  • skill development is a primary driver for players to enjoy the game and achieve their personal goals; therefore, we will embrace our roles as teachers and foster a culture of age-specific skill training for long-term athletic development.
  • hockey serves as an effective vehicle to develop character; therefore, we will instill the values of integrity, hard work, determination, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence in all activities.
  • we serve as a catalyst for promoting the game at all levels within southwest Michigan; therefore, we will collaborate with local, regional and national organizations to grow the game.
  • in fostering a successful learning environment; therefore, we will educate players and coaches while partnering with parents.
